Coronavirus Fairfield: Schools Closed Indefinitely
Fairfield schools will close amid the coronavirus outbreak and an SAT exam at Fairfield Ludlowe High School was postponed.
FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield Public Schools will close Friday amid concern about the spread of the new coronavirus. The schools will be closed until further notice and athletic events, practices and other activities will not be held as scheduled, Superintendent Mike Cummings said in an email to parents.
Fairfield is the latest of several Fairfield County school districts, including neighboring Westport and Weston, to close as a result of the virus. No coronavirus cases have been identified in Fairfield but public health officials have said transmission is occurring in the area, according to the email.
The district is preparing to switch to remote learning, but until that begins, any day school is closed will need to be made up at the end of the school year, Cummings said. The district is also applying Thursday for a state waiver that would allow the distance learning days to count as part of the school year.
