Artist of the Month ~ Karen Vogel/Contemporary Printmaker, BLOOM Series

Karen Vogel, local contemporary printmaker is the Artist of the Month at the downtown Fairfield University Bookstore, 1499 Post Road, Fairfield, CT 06824, 203-255-7756. Her exhibit BLOOM will be on display, April 1-30, 2013 in our Stairwell Art Space.

As a printmaker and painter Karen Vogel is drawn to the complex patterns and mysteries of nature contrasted with the man-made structures found in the natural environment.

Specializing in monoprints, which is her main source of visual expression, a process that involves a layering of shapes and textures derived from stencils, paper lithography, collagraphs and monotype plates. Juxtaposed, the layers exist as a tension, a restless balance between formal compositions and the growth and decay of organic life. The energy that develops when opposing force parallel one another is what interests Ms. Vogel.
