Fairfield Business Owner & Customer Thwart Attempted Car Theft: Report
Surveillance video reportedly shows the incident, which occurred last week on the Post Road in Southport.
FAIRFIELD, CT — The owner of The Auto Spa of Fairfield, and one of his customers, last week scared off some would-be car thieves, who tried unsuccessfully to snatch a vehicle in broad daylight.
The Connecticut Post reported about the attempted theft, and posted grainy surveillance video of the incident.
According to Fairfield Police Lt. Ed Nook, the incident was reported a few days later.

"We did receive a report from the owner of Auto Spa," Nook wrote in an email to Patch. "The incident happened on Thursday 9/14, and he reported it on Wednesday 9/20. There have not been any similar-reported incidents of stolen vehicles during the day hours or attempts in the past month."
Nook added, "At this time I do not see any leads that are being followed up." If that changes, Nook said he would provide an update.

The attempted theft occurred a couple of days before last weekend's violent, daylight carjacking in Westport, in which a 16-year-old from Waterbury was arrested, as was a Berlin man, who was accused of running a "chop shop" where the stolen Aston Martin was recovered.
While the carjacking and Auto Spa incidents may not be related, they show that car thefts continue to be a problem in Fairfield County. Following the Westport incident, the police department there held a community meeting to discuss public safety, which focused on the car theft problem.
Fairfield Police Chief Robert Kalamaras, in addition to police chiefs from other Fairfield County departments, attended the meeting to support the Westport department and gather information.
