Fairfield DTC Condemns GOP for Privacy Violation in Unsolicited Email

The Fairfield Democratic Town Committee (DTC) has condemned the Fairfield Republican Town Committee (RTC) for what it calls a “shocking breach of privacy” following an unsolicited mass email sent to Fairfield University students. According to the DTC, the email represents an inappropriate use of students’ personal contact information.

"The Fairfield Republicans’ tactic to access student emails by means as yet to be explained is another example of their willingness to break the rules for political gain,” said DTC Chair Steven Sheinberg. “This misuse of personal contact information infringes on student privacy and continues the RTC’s manipulative practices from 2023, when they urged students to register and vote Republican on Election Day with misleading promises of beach parties and social events.”
Sheinberg further criticized the local Republican committee for its duplicitous stance on issues affecting students and Town residents. “For years, local Republicans have been lying to students about being on their side regarding noise ordinances while telling homeowners in our beach community that they’re fighting for them,” he said. “Our students and residents deserve better, especially as Senator Hwang has repeatedly complained of others' dishonesty and gaslighting in this campaign. It’s time for them to heed their own advice.”

Sheinberg added, "This kind of political maneuvering creates an unnecessary divide between students and Town residents. The fact that this year’s race is for state legislative seats, positions that hold no sway over town governance, makes these desperate and deceptive tactics particularly egregious."

The Fairfield DTC has encouraged all students to participate in the political process, emphasizing that they deserve access to a range of political perspectives and information from all parties. The DTC has further called upon the RTC to issue a public apology to Fairfield University and its students.

“We strongly condemn the RTC’s use of private student emails for political gain. Students did not opt into this campaign communication, and we find it disturbing that the RTC, alongside Senator Tony Hwang, would resort to such a misleading approach,” Sheinberg concluded.
