Fairfield Installs Solar Panels at Athletic Field

The recently installed solar panels will reportedly generate electricity for several fields.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The new wall behind the outfield fence isn’t an attempt to recreate Fenway Park’s Green Monster at Fairfield’s Tom Haydon softball field on Old Dam Road, but rather new solar panels installed by the town, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Citizen reports the solar panels behind the right-field fence will generate electricity for lights at the softball field, along with the nearby Pop Warner football field and concession stand and lighting for the Kiwanis baseball field.

The solar panels are protected by a large screen net to ensure they won’t be damaged by any home runs balls.

The field is used by the town’s recreation softball leagues and the Fairfield Ludlowe High School softball team, according to the Citizen.
