FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield's superintendent of public works is accused of taking bribes and favors in exchange for letting construction company Julian Enterprises dump toxic demolition material onto property near the town's public works garage, the Connecticut Post reports.

The town has been in a legal battle with Julian Enterprises since Fairfield sued the company about two years ago, seeking $3 million in damages and claiming breach of contract after the company was hired to reduce a fill pile on Richard White Way that then tripled in size, according to the Post.

Police recently raided the company's Meadow Street offices, the Post reports. A search warrant application for the offices states that officials believed they would find evidence of a conspiracy to commit environmental crimes and larceny between public works superintendent Scott Bartlett and Julian personnel, according to the Post. The application referenced statements from town employees suggesting Bartlett received benefits from the company for himself or his son, who works for Julian Development.
