Fairfield Prepares To Dig out From Major Winter Storm

Heavy snow and high winds continued Monday throughout the region.

FAIRFIELD, CT — As Sunday's major winter storm continued on Monday, Fairfield prepared to dig out from under mounds of snow.

Schools were closed on Monday, as was Fairfield Town Hall and several businesses.

Gov. Ned Lamont declared a State of Emergency Sunday afternoon, though power outages in Fairfield remained at a minimum. As of 9:30 a.m. on Monday, 40 out of 25,224 customers in Fairfield were without power, according to United Illuminating.

Statewide, more than 15,000 were without power on Monday.

In Fairfield, officials also declared a snow emergency, and urged residents to stay off the roads:

PARKING BAN effective through Monday Feb 23 6 pm. Vehicles must park on the EVEN NUMBERED side of the street.

Another 3-7 inches of snow are expected throughout Monday.

Town Hall Offices and Transfer Station CLOSED on Monday.

Throughout the immediate area, snow totals were in excess of a foot, according to the National Weather Service, with more snow on the way on Monday.

Also at Fairfield University, an evening with CNN's Jim Sciutto that was scheduled for Monday night was postponed to an as-yet undetermined date.

"The Philip I. Eliasoph Open VISIONS Forum event featuring CNN's Jim Sciutto, originally scheduled for Monday, Feb. 23 in the Dolan School of Business Event Hall, has been postponed," officials said in a statement. "Additional details including a rescheduled date will be shared once they are confirmed."
