Fairfield Student In Custody After Social Media Threat Against School: Police

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield student was taken into custody Thursday after posting a threat on social media, according to police and school officials.

Fairfield police were contacted by the FBI about 3 p.m. regarding a possible threat to a Fairfield school made on the app Yik Yak, law enforcement said.

“School administrations were notified and an investigation was immediately conducted regarding the credibility of the threat,” police said in a news release, adding the juvenile suspect was arrested the same day. “At this time, there is no active threat against any Fairfield school nor towards any students or staff.”

In a message to school district families that was shared on social media by Board of Education Secretary Jessica Gerber, Superintendent Mike Cummings referred to the incident as involving “a social media post that mentioned a veiled threat toward an unnamed school.”

“The Fairfield police investigation is ongoing,” Cummings said in the message. “There are no threats to our schools, our students or our staff.”
