Fairfield Wildcats Claim Cheer State Championship

The D10 squad captured the state title over the weekend and advanced to the New England AYC Championships in Rhode Island later this month.

FAIRFIELD, CT — The Fairfield Wildcats Youth Cheer D10 squad captured the state title by placing first in their division during the American Youth Cheer (AYC) Connecticut State Championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Saturday.

“Our girls worked hard and nailed their routine today. We are so proud of them,” said coach Erin Fusco of Fairfield. This is the first state title for the team since the program's inception in 2013.

The 18 athletes competed among a field of 11 teams from around the state performing a routine that includes cheer, tumbling, stunt and dance portions. The D10 Wildcats team is comprised of fourth and fifth graders from Osborn Hill, Burr, Riverfield, Sherman, Jennings and McKinley elementary schools.

The Wildcats will advance to the New England AYC Championships in Providence, Rhode Island, held at the Dunkin' Donuts Center later this month where they will compete against teams from New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
