Flood Warning Today, Flooding Rainstorm This Weekend: CT Weather

CONNECTICUT — There are immediate weather concerns and also a concern about the upcoming Easter weekend. A Flood Warning is in effect for Middlesex, New London and Hartford counties today.

The National Weather Service says, "Flood Warning for The Connecticut River At Middle Haddam in effect. Minor flooding expected along the river by tonight."

The Flood Warning has been extended for the following rivers in Connecticut:

Connecticut River At Thompsonville affecting Hartford and Hampden Counties

Connecticut River At Hartford affecting Hartford and Middlesex Counties

Connecticut River At Middle Haddam affecting Middlesex County

"The combination of recent heavy rainfall and snow melt across the upper reaches of the Connecticut River basin will bring sharp river rises for the lower Connecticut River. River gauge readings along the lower Connecticut River will reach and exceed flood stage levels today."

The National Weather Service elaborates that at 4:01 AM Tuesday the stage was 16.0 feet. Flood stage is 16.0 feet. Minor flooding is occurring and Minor flooding is forecast.

"Forecast...The river will continue rising to near 19.3 feet by early tomorrow then begin falling. Impact. At 19.0 feet...Flooding of low lying areas below Hartford is expected, especially in areas that are outside of levee protection.

"Flooding also affects low lying areas upstream of Hartford, including a portion of Windsor where the Farmington River empties into the Connecticut River. Further downstream flooding closes most of Meadow Road, Route 17A, in Portland. Flooding impacts the Middletown Marina and Meadow Farms. In Cromwell, portions of River Road will be closed. Flooding continues along the river through Essex."

A Flooding Rainstorm This Weekend In CT?

The National Weather Service says for Southern Connecticut that there is a "low chance for flooding rains Friday night into Saturday due to a slow moving frontal system."

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons says, "Get outside today! Sunny skies a bit on the windy side but it will be nice! High temperatures in the 50s to lower 60s. A quick round of a light rain tonight. Back to sunshine for Wednesday! Then it turns on saddled with a scattered shower threat Thursday and Friday. Some heavier rain likely on Saturday."
