Enid Munroe founded Pequot Library’s Art Show in 1998 with her late husband Harry Munroe. She is a prolific artist and the author of An Artist in the Garden. Mrs. Munroe’s works have been exhibited from New York to London to Washington D.C. She taught at the Hilton Head Art Center in Hilton Head, South Carolina, as well as the Silvermine Guild School of Art and Fort Wright College in Spokane, Washington.

Enid and Harry Munroe brought the idea of a community art show to Pequot Library over 18 years ago. They discovered a delightful community art show, while vacationing, in Maine. Enid was an inspiration to all as she volunteered to spearhead the Pequot Library Art Show’s inception. 18 years later Pequot’s Art Show has grown into a premiere creative event. Annually it brings in new artists, new patrons, and new funds.

In 2007, Mrs. Monroe began chairing the exhibits in The Perkin Gallery at Pequot Library. As a professional artist herself, her keen eye was primed for both emerging and established artists. Mrs. Monroe was the curator of over 60 exhibits for Pequot Library. Fine art exhibits in The Perkin Gallery have been diverse, top-quality, and again, bring in new members of the community. Patrons enjoy being immersed in fine art and photography either at an art opening or as they stroll through the gallery on their way to check out a book at the Front Desk. A resident of Fairfield, Connecticut for almost 60 years, Mrs. Monroe has lived in Japan and Mexico, and brought her world-class vision to everything she did for Pequot Library. She currently lives in New York City.

Alexandra Munroe, Ph.D. is the Samsung Senior Curator, Asian Art and Senior Advisor, Global Arts at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation. Focusing on modern and contemporary Asian art and transnational art studies, she is internationally recognized as one of the most influential curators of her generation. Along with leading the Guggenheim’s Asian art program since it was founded in 2006, she also serves on the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi’s Curatorial Working Group, and convenes the Asian Art Council. Three of her exhibits have been featured on the cover of The New York Times Magazine. In 2003 Munroe’s inter-Asia exhibition Transmitting the Forms of Divinity: Early Buddhist Art from Korea and Japan was awarded The New York Times #1 Best Show. Munroe’s exhibitions have also been featured on the covers of Artforum, ArtNews, and Art in America, as well as many other art and news journals.
