GE Officially a Boston-Based Company
The longtime Fairfield-based company celebrated its first official day headquartered in Boston on Monday.

FAIRFIELD, CT — After more than 40 years of being known as Fairfield-based General Electric, the company officially became Boston-based on Monday.
Boston and Massachusetts officials formally welcomed GE to its global headquarters in Boston Monday.
It's the final formality in GE's previously announced decision to move its main base of operations from Fairfield to the Hub in Boston. The company will inhabit nearby office buildings on a temporary basis, as it builds its official headquarters in Fort Point.

The city and state came up with millions in incentives to help entice GE to town, including up to $25 million in property tax relief from the city and a state package of up to $120 million in additional benefits.

There's also another $5 million in combined support in the offing for an attached innovation center meant to connect GE to community startups and entrepreneurs, among other promises, such as improved public transportation.
GE, in turn, has pledged 800 Boston jobs.
