Opinion: Gerber Administration Cuts $5M from Education

The following opinion essay is from the Fairfield Republican Town Committee:

Fairfield, CT—First Selectman Bill Gerber has proposed a $5 million cut to the Board of Education budget while raising taxes and increasing salaries in his own office.

Despite Gerber slashing education funding, the First Selectman’s Office is handing out massive, taxpayer-funded raises:

• Chief Operations Officer: +$40,000
• Chief of Staff: +$18,000
• Deputy Chief of Staff: +$12,000
• Communications Director: +$70,000
• Constituent Services Coordinator: +$5,000

That’s a 35% increase in non-contractual salaries—all while Fairfield families are forced to pay more and receive less.

Fairfield residents deserve answers. We urge taxpayers to email and attend Town budget meetings to voice their concerns.
