GoFundMe Campaign Launched For Norwalk Resident, 22, Killed In Fairfield Crash

Jake Seco is being remembered as an exceptional athlete, and beloved former camp counselor.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A GoFundMe campaign has been launched in honor of Jake Seco, a 22-year-old Norwalk resident who was killed in an early morning crash Friday on I-95 in Fairfield.

"At just 22 years old, we lost someone who brought light and strength to everyone around him," wrote Dawn Longo, who launched the GoFundMe effort. "Jake Seco was the kind of young man who helped neighbors without being asked, showed up for his family, loved deeply, and pushed himself as an athlete. His impact on our community was real and lasting."

As of Tuesday, the GoFundMe campaign had raised more than $47,000 toward a goal of $55,000, which will go toward funeral expenses and related costs.

Seco, a 2021 graduate of Brien McMahon High School, attended Southern Connecticut State University, and was a standout athlete and popular camp counselor at YMCA Camp Gordyland in Wilton, News 12 Connecticut reported.

"This loss is felt profoundly throughout our organization," a post on the Camp Gordyland Facebook page reads. "Jake will be remembered not only for the incredible work he did, but for the warmth, compassion, and genuine care he showed to everyone around him. He kept campers safe and happy on the ropes course, and someone they could look up to in his silly ways. He will be truly missed."

At Southern Connecticut, Seco played rugby, and the school's athletic department mourned his passing.

"Over his four years with the program, he exemplified the brotherhood and pride that define Southern Rugby," Coordinator of Campus Recreation Andrew Marullo told Southern Connecticut State University Athletics & Recreation.

Seco was killed when he tried to cross the thruway after his vehicle crashed into a concrete jersey barrier in the median, according to Connecticut State Police.
