Informational Meeting In Fairfield Set To Discuss UI Monopole Project

FAIRFIELD, CT — There will be important NEW UPDATES at a Town Hall Information Session on the United Illuminating monopoles plan on Thursday, May 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Roger Ludlowe Middle School in Fairfield.

Last month’s meeting had approximately 200 attendees, and as interest and concern has grown, many more are expected this month.

This new meeting is significant because state legislators will discuss current legislation to reform the utility decision-making process. The bill, HB 5507, was passed by the Connecticut House and Senate and now awaits the signature of Governor Ned Lamont.

Along with those legislators, the grassroots non-profit Empowering Fairfield, and other cultural, historic and religious groups, will be sharing the latest information about the legislation. They also will provide background on the Connecticut Siting Council’s February decision to move UI’s transmission line project to the north side of the railroad tracks in Southport, Fairfield and Bridgeport.

Separate from HB 5507, the meeting will focus on appeals filed in Superior Court. Last month the Town of Fairfield and, separately, a diverse group of intervenors each filed an appeal against the Siting Council in Superior Court. The following week, the City of Bridgeport filed its own suit.
