In the early waking hours of a brisk Sunday Morning, the Z family traveled to Java Coffee & Café located at 44 Church Lane in Westport (javabowlofsoul.com). Java just opened and the talk of the town is that it is THE place to try.
As we passed from the chilly, snowy sidewalk to inside of the restaurant, I was hit with a burst of chatter coming from each and every table there. When we had made our way through the snaking line to enter the restaurant, we stepped up to the cashier and made our order. To soothe our throats on a frigid day, we ordered 2 Bowls of Soul.
The Bowl of Soul consists of a mixture of steaming Hot Chocolate and nutty Coffee. In addition, the drink is sprinkled with a dash of chestnut brown cinnamon and nutmeg.

The Bowls of Soul were just the right thing for a cold winter day, and were enjoyed immensely by the whole family.
The next dish we ordered was a Kale Salad. The Salad was ordered by my Mom (A Kale Addict).

The bowl was fresh and filled with vivid green Kale,a large scoop of quinoa, many walnuts, ruby red cranberries and a light sprinkling of crumbled feta cheese. I don’t love Kale, but this dish was actually delicious and a perfect palate cleanser after the Bowl of Soul.
My younger brother ordered the Breakfast Croissant. The Croissant was lightly buttered and toasted with a pinch of salt. On top of the golden croissant was a medium-sized pile of yellow scrambled eggs, and two slices of crisp, greasy bacon.
My brother enjoyed the dish so much that he would barely give me a bite for my review.
My Dad ordered the Macho Burrito. The Macho Burrito was made up of a soft flour tortilla, steaming hot scrambled eggs, velvety melted cheese, mealy black beans, crisp chopped bacon bits, spicy green chilies, and a smooth homemade creme fraiche.
The Burrito was delicious and was eaten in no time at all by my Dad.
For a “dessert”, we obtained a “slice” of a Rice Krispie Treat. The Rice Krispie Treat was crunchy and beyond sweet.
Our slice was loaded with melted marshmallows that filled the craving of everyone's sweet tooth.
The vibe of the restaurant was very funky and hip. Men, Women, and Children of all ages were enjoying Java. The walls were filled with colorful Andy Warhol Prints, and seemed to be admired at by all who entered. The food and drinks at Java Restaurant were fairly inexpensive, and the servings were very generous. I can definitely say that I hope to return in the near future.
I would give it ZZZZV- 4 ¼ Z’s- Yum!
