Leaking Roof At Fairfield School To Be Fixed Before Classes Start
Officials decided the school wouldn't be able to get through the coming academic year without the repair.
FAIRFIELD, CT — A Fairfield school is getting a newly repaired roof just in time for a new school year. Work to fix the roof at Osborn Hill Elementary School is underway after it started leaking in the spring.
"The leaking problem became progressively worse over the spring and into the early summer," Interim Superintendent Stephen Tracy told the school board at a recent meeting.
Officials decided Osborn Hill wouldn't be able to get through the coming school year without the repairs, according to Tracy.

"We needed to act quickly," board Chair Christine Vitale said at the July 31 meeting.
The cost of the hot asphalt repair is about $240,000. The funds to fix the roof came from unused maintenance dollars; reducing the amount spent on painting contracts; and deferring hiring a consultant to assess the school district's air conditioning needs, according to Tracy.

Silktown Roofing Inc. is in the process of completing the work, according to Tracy, who said the district expects the repairs will be finished by Aug. 16, 10 days before teachers return.
"We have to get the work done, and that's what we're doing," he said.
