Fairfield Scholar-Athlete to Represent USA in the World Maccabiah Games in Israel
Jason Deck, a soccer player for FWHS and RUFC will compete in the World Maccabiah Games this summer.
Jason Deck, a soccer player for Fairfield Warde High School (“FWHS”) and Fairfield County premier travel team Revolution United FC (“RUFC”), will compete in the World Maccabiah Games this summer. Often referred to as the "Jewish Olympics," The World Maccabiah Games are held in Israel every four years. The Games are considered the third largest international sporting event in the world with over 9,000 athletes representing 78 countries. Maccabi USA will bring a team delegation of 1,100+ athletes who will compete in over 40+ sports, including soccer. Deck competed with over 150 players at tryouts on the east and west coast for one of the 20 coveted spots on the Team USA roster.
“It was a humbling and extremely competitive experience,” says Deck. A senior and proud member of the National Honor Society at FWHS, Deck manages to balance his high-level of athletics with his high-achieving level of academics. He credits his RUFC coach, Floyd Neil, for motivating him to never give up on and off the field. “Coach Floyd has constantly challenged me to adjust my style of play and motivated and challenged me to become a better tactical and technical player. He pushed my teammates and I to dig deeper and try harder. Most importantly, he taught all of us to keep the game simple, especially during those difficult moments.”
Deck’s passion for soccer began at the age of 1 when he pushed a size 1 ball with his feet around the family room. By age 3, Deck was on his first recreational soccer team where he developed a love for the sport. Fast on his feet, Deck currently plays the positions of forward and midfielder on both FWHS and RUFC teams. His goal has been to play soccer competitively. “My goal of being selected to represent the USA in competition on an international level would never have been realized without the unwavering support of my family, my RUFC coaches, my FWHS coaches and teachers, my teammates and friends. I am honored and humbled to represent you, all. I hope to make all of you proud.”

Started in 2011, RUFC is a Fairfield County premier soccer club with a unique player-centered and family-centered approach that aims to develop boys and girls ages 5-19 to reach their highest potential both on and off the field. Unlike the “winning at all costs” that many teams, coaches, and parents expect from their child’s participation in youth sports, player development is the number one priority at RUFC. RUFC focuses on the international skills of soccer and cultivating the different talent in each one of their players with a coaching staff comprised of ex-semi-professional players, licensed coaches, and coaches who have played at the college levels D2 and D1. RUFC players of all age groups participate in comprehensive regular training, programs, events, and extra training opportunities including weekly practices and games at state of the art outdoor and indoor training facilities, as well as highly competitive indoor and outdoor local, regional and overseas premier tournaments. RUFC provides a College Advisory Program for U16-U19 high school players that works hand in hand with players and parents to provide guidance, support, and education on procedures and expectations during the college application and recruiting process.
