Man Who Robbed Fairfield Bank With Toothpaste Is Sentenced

William Johnson told the judge he was "just not in the right frame of mind" and that he had a mental illness, the Connecticut Post reported.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Bridgeport man who used a tube of toothpaste to rob a Fairfield bank over the summer was sentenced recently to two years behind bars, according to the Connecticut Post.

William Johnson, 42, told the judge Wednesday that he was “just not in the right frame of mind,” the Post reported, when on Aug. 25 he entered Key Bank at 1761 Post Road, pretended to have a gun and pointed the object at tellers before fleeing with stolen cash in a taxi, police said at the time.

“I have a mental illness,” Johnson said, according to the Post, which reported Johnson pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery after stealing more than $13,000.
