Muslim Families In Fairfield Public Schools Seek Holiday Off: Report
The families are requesting the school system take off Eid al-Fitr.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Several Muslim families in the Fairfield Public School System are asking the district to observe Eid al-Fitr as a holiday, reported the Connecticut Post.
During a Board of Education meeting earlier this week, the families told the board of the difficulty of not having the holiday off, and they are requesting that the district begin observing it in the 2023-24 school year.
Families estimate that there are more than 500 students in Fairfield Public Schools who observe Islamic faith, and nearly half of them reportedly took the holiday off in the 2021-22 school year. The April holiday marks the end of Ramadan, and is observed, or is soon-to-be observed, by other school districts in Connecticut, such as Bridgeport.
