NBC Sports Exec Talks Winter Olympics At Fairfield Museum

Rob Simmelkjaer to speak at Fairfield Museum After Dark Event.

From Fairfield Museum: Sports fans, skiers, skaters, hockey players and families who are looking forward to watching the 2018 Winter Olympic Games on television will have the opportunity to go “Backstage at the Olympics with NBC” at the Fairfield Museum on Thursday, January 25th from 6-8pm! The first Museum After Dark event of 2018 will feature Senior Vice President of NBC Sports Ventures and broadcaster Rob Simmelkjaer, who will talk about his experiences behind the scenes at the Olympics.

Westport resident Simmelkjaer will give guests a preview of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games and talk about a variety of topics including the ins and outs of producing an event of this magnitude (and the challenges of a 14-hour time difference!) and how technology is changing the way people watch their favorite sports. He will also discuss how politics affects the games, from the security issues in South Korea to Russia’s stance on the doping scandals. There will also be time for Simmelkjaer to answer the audience’s burning questions about the Olympics.

Simmelkjaer’s talk ties into the Museum’s current Winter Wonderland exhibition, which features photographs and historic items such as skates, skis and sleds related to favorite winter activities in Fairfield and the surrounding area. The exhibition is on view in the Ruth Carlson Horn Gallery and runs through February 19.
