Fairfield State Rep. Running For Lt. Gov. Alongside Republican Stefanowski

FAIRFIELD, CT — Fairfield state Rep. Laura Devlin has joined the campaign of Republican gubernatorial candidate Bob Stefanowski as his running mate.

Devlin will be seeking the office of lieutenant governor in November alongside the presumptive Republican nominee for governor.

“Throughout her career, Laura Devlin has shown the tenacity and integrity our state needs in its leaders,” Stefanowski said Tuesday in a news release that announced Devlin's endorsement and called for more affordability, safer communities and greater government accountability in Connecticut.

“Today marks the beginning of a fresh start and a new team to get state government working for the people of Connecticut, not the political insiders.”

Devlin, a Fairfield resident, represents the 134th District, which includes parts of Fairfield and Trumbull. She was first elected to the seat in 2014, replacing current state Sen. Tony Hwang. In 2020, she retained the office by defeating Democrat Carla Volpe with 52 percent of the vote. As of Tuesday, Devlin was the only candidate who had filed to run in the 134th District for the 2022 election.

“I am honored to join Bob Stefanowski and so appreciate his trust in me,” Devlin said in the news release. “Taking on the status quo to make Connecticut safer, more affordable and state government more accountable is no small task, but Bob and I are up to the challenge.”

Stefanowski, who is expected to be endorsed next month by the Connecticut Republican Party, also ran for governor in 2018, accompanied on the ballot by Joe Markley. That year, Stefanowski received 46.2 percent of the vote compared to Gov. Ned Lamont’s 49.4 percent.

A corporate executive by profession, Stefanowski has positioned himself as a financial expert with a background in business reform, and as someone who will root out waste in Connecticut.
