School Redistricting Examined In Fairfield

The Fairfield Board of Education is exploring redistricting to achieve racial balance.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Faced with what Superintendent of Schools Dr. Toni Jones says are “some very difficult decisions” to make, the Fairfield Board of Education is examining redistricting to achieve racial balance and resolve overcrowding, according to the Fairfield Citizen.

The Citizen reports the school board has given itself a deadline of June 30, 2019 to come up with a comprehensive redistricting plan. The action was one of several goals the board voted to adopt at last week’s meeting. To sign up for Fairfield breaking news alerts and more, click here.

At the meeting, some board members questions whether there was enough money in the current budget to use for consultants, while others questioned if the most recent report in 2016 is still viable, according to the Citizen.
