Several Drivers Rescued During Flooding In Fairfield

Firefighters extricated several drivers, including a mother and children, from cars that were stuck in the water on Tuesday evening.

FAIRFIELD, CT — Firefighters responded to Brookside Drive and Samp Mortar to extricate a mother and children from a car stuck in the water on Tuesday evening. The fire department has responded to numerous calls as the flash flooding hit town.

“Units continue to respond to numerous flooding incidents in Town,” the fire department wrote in a post on Twitter at about 6:30 p.m. “Currently every unit in Fairfield is on a call. Water continues to rise in many areas.”

Throughout the evening, crews have extricated drivers from vehicles stuck in water on several roads, including Wilson Street, near Valley, on Chambers Street, Bennett Street and Congress Street. To sign up for Fairfield breaking news alerts and more, click here.

"Under the direction of Asst Chief Scott Bisson, Firefighter Wil Malkin, Rob Luise, Tyler Grant Prescott rescue the driver of a late model BMW trapped in the fast moving waters of the Mill River," fire officials wrote in a post on Facebook. "This rescue or is one of many conducted by fire fighters during the sudden and dangerous flooding caused by heavy rains. Calls for Rescue began around 4 PM and continued through 10 PM tonight."
