It's Easter week and you receive a beautiful Easter lily, a wonderful pot of Tulips, Hyacinths or Daffodils. Maybe you received a lovely Large Basket of Assorted Plants like Hydrangea's, Azalea's.
First enjoy your plants or assortment of plants for as long as they stay in bloom, that's the time you will need to care and plant them to enjoy for the year or years to come!
Lets take the Tulips, Hyacinths and daffodils,
keep them inside or you can put them outdoors in a special place for you to see, keeping them outside will give the blooms a longer life as the cooler air tends to extend the bloom life of the buld plants( because of the nice fragrance of the hyacinth I recommend you leave that inside). Once they have finished blooming cut them about 2 inches above the bulb tip, find a place in your yard where you would like to plant them, dig a separate hole about 7-8 inches deep and plant 1 bulb in the hole with the bulb pointed up
fill hole with soil and pack down, top off area with Espoma Bulb tone or any neutral fertilizer and enjoy the flowers over the next several Springs!
PS. Deer love your tulip bulbs so ask your local hardware or garden center for a deer repellant you can use to keep the deer away!
Easter Lilies use the same instructions as the bulb plants but be careful leaving the plant out overnight, they just aren't quite as hardy as the other bulb plants.
Azalea's and Hydrangea's, these plants or forced to bloom for Easter so while they will stay in bloom much longer than the bulb plants, they can't stay out overnight or a cold Spring day, I suggest keeping them inside and watching them bloom for up to a full Month or more, remember don't over water, make sure you water only when the plant is dry. Finally when the Azalea or Hydrangea is done flowering, keep caring for it as if it was still in bloom, wait until the end of May or early June find a spot in your yard with plenty of sunshine and dig a hole as deep as the plant pot, take plant out of pot, place in hole making sure the top of the plant soil is even with or a little above the ground, back fill and pack in the soil firmly, water and fertilize with holly tone from Espoma or something similar, keep watered and the plant will acclimate to the soil and start it natural process the following year.
If you have any questions about a plant you have received and don't know
how to care for them please feel free to give us a call at Blossoms at Dailey's Flower Shop, we would be happy to help.
