Wife of Fairfield Man Fatally Shot By Police Says He was An 'Incredible Husband, Father'

Kathleen Andrews released a statement regarding last week's tragedy.

Kathleen Andrews, the wife of Christopher Andrews who was fatally shot by police outside of their Mountain Laurel Road home following a violent domestic incident last Tuesday, said he was an “incredible husband, father and friend and deserves to be remembered as such.”

Kathleen Andrews was discharged from the hospital on Monday and is gaining her strength back, according to Michael Meehan, the family’s attorney.

In the statement, Kathleen Andrews said that their family “has been overwhelmed by the support we have received from our community.”

A GoFundMe page was launched last Wednesday afternoon and has raised more than $215,000 in five days.

The full statement released by Kathleen Andrews is below:

In these darkest days that have passed since the events of last Tuesday, or family has been overwhelmed by the support we have received from our community. The kindness and generosity that continues to be shown to myself and my children has given our family hope and strength to begin to heal. My gratitude for the incredible doctors that worked tirelessly to save my family is immense. With that being said, this road is a long one.

The loss of my beloved husband and adored father of my children has left our family irrevocably changed and utterly devastated. To compound this grief by learning of the inaccurate reporting of that morning’s events, and of my husband’s actions, was extremely disappointing. Our family humbly asks for patience and privacy as we begin to navigate this new course of our lives. Chris was an incredible husband, father and friend and deserves to be remembered as such.

With time more will be understood about exactly what took place las Tuesday. However, today we pray for my husband, Chris and my children.

Thank you,

The Andrews Family

Christopher Andrews was fatally shot by Officer Sean Fenton in the driveway around 6 a.m. after police responded to an “extremely violent situation” in which the family members sustained significant injuries in the incident.

Andrews was shot after police said he failed to comply with orders to drop his weapon, which was reportedly a knife.

Fairfield officials canceled a planned vigil that was going to be held Sunday night on the Old Town Hall Green in conjunction with advocates against domestic violence out of respect to the family’s wishes.

Sources close to the family told the Connecticut Post that the family didn’t want the label “domestic violence” associated with their tragedy and consider what happened to be completely out of character for Christopher Andrews.
