Farmington Company Gives Gift Of Time To Beloved Pets

The company specializing in cancer treatments for dogs, cats and horses moved into a new, state-of-the-art production facility this week.

FARMINGTON, CT — If you're beloved dog or cat lived a bit longer after a dreaded cancer diagnosis, there's a good chance that precious extra time came from the efforts of a Farmington company.

And that company this week celebrated a major milestone in its short history by moving into a new, state-of-the-art production facility and company headquarters in Farmington.

Torigen Pharmaceuticals Inc. officially cut the ribbon on a brand-new, 7,800-square-foot production facility, which also serves as company headquarters, at 6 Executive Drive in Farmington.

“Our new space provides us with tremendous opportunity for growth as we continue to establish ourselves as a leader in companion animal immuno-therapeutics,” said Troy Gobbett, Torigen's vice president of operational excellence, in a statement Tuesday, one day after the ribbon-cutting Monday.

Torigen's product is a newly developed medication that treats cancer in dogs, cat and horses.

It is a companion treatment with other means of treating he disease and it has helped result in the elimination, stopping and slowing the growth of cancer cells in those creatures.

It utilizes the chemistry of the tumor cells against the tumor itself, in essence, buying more time for these animals.

"With over 50 percent of all dogs over the age of 10 dying from cancer, Torigen is dedicated to providing affordable and effective cancer care solutions for all companion animals," wrote the company in a statement.

"Torigen recognizes the instrumental role pets play in our families and is determined to extend the lives of companion animals despite a cancer diagnosis."

And the Farmington site is the home base for this operation.

According to the company, Torigen’s new space includes a production facility featuring a state-of-the-art clean room.

This allows the company to drastically increase its vaccine production capacity.

The new office space houses the executive leadership team and 15 team members and, as can be expected at a veterinary pharmaceutical firm, it is dog friendly.

According to Torigen, the company originated from the University of Notre Dame and is backed by Emerald Development Managers, the University of Connecticut, SoGal Ventures, The Fund, Gaingels, Connecticut Innovations, Aimers Venture Partners and other prominent investors.

The lab itself, according to Torigen officials, started at UConn just six years ago.

“From starting our lab at the University of Connecticut back in 2017, to seeing the amazing team we have brought together to grow this business, I have never been more excited,” said Ashley Kalinauskas, founder and chief executive officer or Torigen.

“The level of expertise in oncology, commercial operations, and new product development is truly among the best in the animal health industry. Our team and our new facility will be instrumental as we focus on bringing transformative products to companion animals.”
