Lawsuit By Farmington Crash Victim's Parents Targets Suspect, Concert Promoter

Luke Roux, 17, of Farmington, was killed in June after a drunk driver slammed into his vehicle in Hartford, police said.

FARMINGTON, CT — The parents of a recent Farmington High School graduate killed by an accused drunk driver last June has filed a lawsuit against the suspect and the event organizer where the suspect reportedly got drunk, according to media reports.

The Hartford Courant on Thursday reported the filing on Monday of a lawsuit on behalf of the parents against Farmington resident Jacob Coffey, who was charged in connection with Farmington teenager Luke Roux's death, and concert promoter Live Nation.

According to the Courant, the lawsuit alleges Live Nation was hosting a tailgate event outside the Xfinity Theater in Hartford, an event where Coffey is reported to have become intoxicated at.

According to the lawsuit, Coffey was so intoxicated, he was unable to gain entry to a country music concert, the newspaper reported.

Later on that night, June 25, a vehicle driven by Coffey slammed into a vehicle being driven by Roux in Hartford that night, killing the 17-year-old, authorities said.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, and it claims both Coffey and the concert promoter were responsible for the atmosphere that allowed for the crash to happen.

On Aug. 17, Coffey was charged with first-degree manslaughter; operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol; and reckless driving.
