Police Investigating After Bomb Scare and Reported Home Invasion in New Britain and Bristol

The incident involved a potentially explosive device.

Update: The devices found in the Bristol home and on the man in New Britain turned out to be fake, according to NBC.

Police are investigating after a Bristol home invasion and a bomb scare at a New Britain bank were found to be related.

Police in Bristol responded to a report of a home invasion shortly after 8 a.m. on Luftkin Lane, according to WFSB. It was part of a scheme to steal money from Achieve Financial Credit Union in New Britain.

A woman was tied to a bed and a device was planted under her. A man had reportedly had a device put on him and was ordered to the bank to open the vault or else the device near the woman would be detonated, WFSB reports.

Police found the man, who is believed to be a bank employee, with a possible explosive device on him in the parking lot. It was rendered safe and the device was turned over to the FBI for further analysis.

The Hartford Courant reports police are investigating whether the man was coerced to doing something against his will or if he is a suspect.

The incident prompted a lockouts and lockdowns at schools in Farmington, New Britain and Bristol as a precaution.

Route 72 was closed at exit 7 in New Britain, according to Fox CT.
