Farmington Officer Seriously Hurt After Being Hit By Fleeing Car

A thwarted car burglary turned into an office being stuck by a vehicle early Monday in Farmington, police said.

FARMINGTON, CT — A Farmington police officer was seriously injured early Monday morning while attempting to break up a motor vehicle burglary.

At 12:50 a.m., Farmington police responded to a report about an active theft involving a motor vehicle in the area of 1 Talcott Notch Road.

The thieves attempted to flee the scene, but their car hit a Farmington officer who had just exited his police vehicle, according to a report.

Additional officers pursued the getaway car, which was reported stolen out of Middletown, crashed into a wooded area, according to a report. The suspects then fled on foot, police said.

Multiple dog teams searched the area, but thee suspects were not located.

The officer who was struck by the suspect vehicle was transported to St. Francis Hospital via ambulance and sustained what police described at "serious non-life-threatening injuries."

The officer was being prepped for surgery Monday morning, police said.

The identity of the officer is not being released.
