FARMINGTON, CT — The town's police department recently earned much-desired re-accreditation, confirming to the public Farmington's Finest adhere to consistent and vital standards of work.

Farmington Town Manager Kathleen Blonski informed the Farmington Town Council of the milestone at its meeting last month.

She said the rigorous process for re-accreditation cumulated with the designation from the Commission for the Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies last Nov. 19.

Blonski said the department was first accredited in 1992 and has, regularly, maintained accreditation in a quadrennial process.

"The department voluntarily opens its operating procedures, general orders and personnel protocols to external review to ensure the department is meeting internationally recognized standards and best practices in the profession," Blonski wrote in her Dec. 13 town manager's report.

The process includes multiple site visits by CALEA officials and, eventually, a final hearing before the commission's subcommittee, she said.

She said the FPD met a total of 387 separate re-accreditation standards and easily earned re-accreditation.

"In short, the subcommittee was impressed with the department's dedication to professionalized law enforcement, its community policing efforts, its labor management relationships and, finally, its dedication to employee wellness," Blonski said in her report.
