The Farmington Police Department is once again making the public aware of what goes on while many are asleep at night. This is a national crime trend that we are seeing in our community, and we urge citizens to work with us in combating it.
Thieves have been targeting and stealing from unlocked vehicles, typically during the overnight hours in residential neighborhoods. Cash, credit cards, electronics, and even keys to vehicles have been stolen from unlocked vehicles and have resulted in other crimes including stolen cars and identity theft. The perpetrators believe they are hard to catch, engage the police in pursuit, and have a wanton disregard for public safety. Law Enforcement has shared intelligence on these crimes and several arrests have been made by Farmington Police and other agencies.
Several of these perpetrators have been known to carry firearms while committing these crimes, and are involved in other serious crimes including armed robbery and drug use.
The Farmington Police Department urges citizens to lock vehicles, remove valuables from plain sight, and leave exterior home lights on to assist us in safeguarding and patrolling our neighborhoods. Report any suspicious persons or activities to police immediately by calling 911.
