Council OKs New Farmington Teacher Pact

The teachers union and school board a month ago had already approved a new deal, with the council finalizing it earlier this month.

FARMINGTON, CT — A unanimous Farmington Town Council vote earlier this month means a new contract agreement between local schools and its teachers union is now final.

The council voted Nov. 14 to approve the contract between the Farmington Board of Education and the Farmington Education Association.

Town council rejection of the deal could have meant the deal would have gone to the state for arbitration while no action on the contract in a certain period of time would have meant the deal would take effect.

Ultimately, the deal was easily approved and the town avoided any messy matters associated with the teachers contract.

In approving the agreement, the council officially gave local teachers, essentially 3 percent and up raises each year for the three years of the deal, according to council minutes.

Back in October, the school board unanimously approved the teacher contract, which runs from 2023-24 through 2025-26 school years.

According to school board minutes, the pay increases each year will be 3.69 percent, 3.72 percent and 3.81 percent, respectively, through the three years of the contract.

The deal also mandates that staff pay 22.5 percent, 23 percent and 23.5 percent of their medical insurance throughout the course of the contract.

The contract also dealt with other terms, including disability insurance, sick time, life insurance and other agreements.
