Farmington's Top Cop Retires, Interim Chief Named: UPDATE

Another veteran Farmington law enforcer has been picked to fill in as interim chief.

FARMINGTON, CT — After 25 years serving the Farmington community, Farmington Police Chief Colin Ryan has retired.

The town announced Ryan's retirement on Friday, Jan. 31, with local officials naming a temporary replacement for the veteran law enforcer on Monday, Feb. 3.

That interim chief also carries a high level of experience in town, as Farmington Town Manager Kathleen Blonski named FPD Capt. Tim McKenzie as acting chief.

McKenzie has served the Town of Farmington for over 25 years in various roles within the department.

"Our community and officers will continue to benefit from his strong and effective law enforcement leadership and professional experience," wrote the Town of Farmington Monday.

Meanwhile, the local community bid a fond farewell to Ryan late last week.

According to local officials, Ryan has served the FPD in just about every capacity possible since the early 1990s.

"Chief Ryan has served in many capacities including patrol officer, narcotics detective, sergeant, detective sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and chief," wrote the town.

"He was awarded numerous recognitions throughout his distinguished career including lifesaving, medal of valor, department citations, and the department service award."
