FARMINGTON, CT — A New Britain man was charged in connection with a violent, chain-reaction rollover crash on Interstate 84 in Farmington Friday evening.

According to the state police accident report, the crash happened at about 4:51 p.m. Friday, March 1, on Interstate 84 West in Farmington.

Police said a 2016 Subaru Legacy driven by Kilduff was traveling in the center lane of the highway near Exit 37 when it tried to pass a 2005 Toyota Tundra being driven by a 22-year-old man from Seaford, N.Y.

According to the report, however, Kilduff's Subaru struck the rear of the Toyota causing the Toyota to veer into the grassy median of the highway.

Kilduff, police said, then continued in the center lane until he opted to merge into the right lane, but he slammed into a 2008 Honda CRV being driven by a 23-year-old New Britain man.

This sent the Honda into a wire rope guardrail and a light pole, coming to a rest in the embankment area.

Kilduff's Subaru then hit the wire guardrail as well, where it began to flip, coming to a rest in the center and right lanes of the highway.

Despite the nature of the accident, Kilduff was not injured, according to police, nor was the driver of the Toyota.

The driver of the Honda was taken to a nearby hospital for suspected minor injuries, police said.

State police said Kilduff appeared to be impaired and he failed field sobriety tests on the scene, leading to the charges.
