Nonprofit Nursery School Celebrates 65 Years In Farmington
The Main Street schools was founded when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president.

FARMINGTON, CT — A local nonprofit nursery school and preschool that started when Dwight D. Eisenhower was president is celebrating its 65th anniversary in Farmington.
The Village Nursery School, a non-religious, nonprofit, state-licensed facility is located at 67 Main St., Farmington.
According to Patricia Garcia, a member of the school's board of directors, the school — founded in 1957 — is one of the oldest learning institutions in Farmington.

And while many folks "liked Ike" when the school was founded, current staff members and those affiliated with VNS, simply, like working at the school.
"VNS is filled with teachers with decades of experience, strong early childhood education backgrounds, and clear joy for what they do. The kids' days are filled with a balance of both structure and free play," wrote Meghan Shue, co-president of the school's board.

Jean van Hoof, a teacher and director there, agreed.
"The children and families that we get to meet and know are my favorite thing about working at VNS. Each child and each school year gives us an opportunity to see new faces and form relationships. The small school community is wonderful," she said.
It offers classes for 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds and pre-kindergarten and it operates following the Farmington School System's calendar regarding snow days, holidays and vacations.
