The recent Farmington Planning and Zoning Commission vote was unanimous against the club.

FARMINGTON, CT — A controversial plan to expand the types of events allowed at the Farmington Polo Club was unanimously shot down by local zoning board members recently.

The Farmington Planning and Zoning Commission rejected a proposal by Town Farm Development LLC, which owns the club at 152 Town Farm Road, for a special permit for expanded event use at the site.

The bipartisan vote was 0 in favor and 6 votes opposed to the application, resulting in its denial.

Polo club owners were looking to expand the types of events that could be utilized at the site, which is in an area actually zoned residential.

As a result, neighbors at multiple public hearing expressed severe reservations about the idea of more events at the site beyond just polo matches.

Citing noise and traffic concerns, they opposed the special permit applications.

PZC members, according to meeting minutes from May 22, claimed there was "an opportunity for compromise and balance," but the applicant didn't show it was willing to do so.

One central concern expressed were the club's Sunday morning "Cars & Coffee" car show events on Sunday mornings that many neighbors claimed were too noisy and hurt their quality of life.
