Former Massachusetts Gov. Romney has a commanding lead in delegates and, with Santorum dropping out April 10, is the presumed nominee.

CTpost.com says winning Connecticut's 25 delegates will be important to Romney, for "style points" if nothing else. The Post says 450,000 Connecticut Republicans are eligible to vote Tuesday:

The winner of the Republican contest can capture all 25 delegates only if he or she receives at least 50 percent of the statewide vote and carries all five congressional districts, which each count for three delegates. Otherwise, the delegates will be awarded on a proportional basis. Connecticut also commands three superdelegates, who are not bound to a particular candidate and can wait until the national convention to decide. Romney must accumulate 1,144 delegates to win the nomination. He currently sits at 573, with Santorum at 202, Gingrich at 132 and Paul at 26, according to the official count on the Republican National Committee website.

The Republican Convention in Connecticut will be Friday, May 18, 2012 at the Hartford Convention Center.

Republican voters also will be going to the polls in Delaware, New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island Tuesday. The New York Times says solid victories in all five states could convince Republican party officials to fully embrace Romney's candidacy.

Polls will be open 6 a.m. — 8 p.m.
