Tunxis Commencement is May 24

The Class of 2023 will receive 650 associate degrees and certificates in more than 50 programs of study.

Tunxis Community College will hold its 52nd Commencement on Wednesday, May 24 at 6 p.m.

Nearly 500 graduates are eligible to participate in the graduation ceremony, which includes those who have completed coursework over the 2022-2023 academic year. The Class of 2023 will receive 650 associate degrees and certificates in more than 50 programs of study.

“This ceremony marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance, and the beginning of a new chapter filled with endless possibilities and opportunities,” said Tunxis CEO Darryl Reome, Ed.D. “We are excited to celebrate the achievements of our graduates and the remarkable community we have fostered within this institution—one which nurtures aspirations, celebrates diversity and empowers individuals to create meaningful change.”

Speakers for the event will include Reome, CSCU President Terrence Cheng, and Richard Balducci, Board of Regents for Higher Education board member. Co-valedictorian Jade Christian Ockenfels will also deliver remarks to the graduating class.

Cynthia Bombard, president and CEO of the Central Connecticut Chambers of Commerce will receive an honorary associate degree in recognition of her commitment and contributions in building workforce development training and education throughout the state.

Tunxis Commencement will be held at Central Connecticut State University’s Welte Auditorium. Graduates of Tunxis Continuing Education & Workforce Development programs will receive degrees in a separate ceremony on May 25 at 6 p.m. in Founders Hall at Tunxis.

Since its first graduation in 1972, Tunxis has served over 185,000 credit students throughout Connecticut, awarding over 18,500 associate degrees and certificates to 15,000 graduates. The college has also awarded more than 6,200 non-credit certificates through Continuing Education and Workforce Development. Located in Farmington, Tunxis offers more than 70 associate degrees and certificates that prepare students for transfer to bachelor’s degree programs and employment in areas with industry need.

Tunxis is among 12 community colleges in Connecticut merging on July 1 to become CT State Community College, one of the largest community colleges in the country and largest in New England, dedicated to quality, access and affordability. CT State students will be able to apply once and take classes at any campus. Other locations include Asnuntuck (Enfield), Capital (Hartford), Gateway (New Haven and North Haven), Housatonic (Bridgeport), Manchester, Middlesex (Middletown and Meriden), Naugatuck Valley (Waterbury and Danbury), Northwestern (Winsted), Norwalk, Quinebaug Valley (Danielson and Willimantic), and Three Rivers (Norwich).
