Two FHS musicians were interns at the Summer Choral Festival with CONCORA! Sarah Serkosky and Akshitha Viswanathan were summer interns with the professional music organization throughout July. Both musicians performed with the choir learning German and Scottish major works. They worked closely with the Artistic Director, Chris Shepard as he conducted the choir in the music festival from July 14-20.

Sarah has worked with Maestro Shepard last summer also and says "his attention to detail in performance practices is inspirational. Our choir was so expressive at the concert." Akshitha was interning for her first year, she "enjoyed the conductors focus on vowels formation, breathing and diction. Our performance of Brahms in a waltz style was outstanding under his guidance."

Student internships present opportunities for practical application and skills developed in professional or community settings. Gaining experience in a professional setting helps students develop job-related skills such as communication, collaboration, problem solving and organization. Additionally working with adults in a professional community gives students the perspective of lifelong learning required in the 21st century workforce.
