$69 Shoplifting In Glastonbury Uncovers $75K Registry Warrant

A $69 shoplifting incident at a Glastonbury food market led to the arrest of an East Hartford man on four warrants worth $76,500.

GLASTONBURY, CT — A $69 shoplifting incident at a Glastonbury food market led to the arrest of an East Hartford man on four warrants worth $76,500 — including one for failing to register after a violent sexual offense case, police and court records show.

At 8:33 a.m. on Sept. 18, 59-year-old Stephen Cooper was picked up a block from the Glastonbury Whole Foods market after running away from staff members investigating a shoplifting there, according to a report. Police said $69 worth of merchandise was taken.

Police then discovered four failure to appear warrants forr Cooper — three for local ordinance violations with bonds of $500 each and one for failing to register for the sex-related case that carried a $75,000 bond, records show.

Judicial system records show that Cooper was conviced twice for failng to register in 2016. Records show a 1997 sexual assault arrest.

Cooper is due back in court on Oct. 15, records show.

He was charged with sixth-degree larceny for the Whole Foods incident, records show.
