Oktoberfest at The Lodge
Senior citizens show their not too old to celebrate Oktoberfest.
Earlier this month, there was a Columbus Day celebration at The Lodge at Cold Spring, where Executive Chef Nick Mastracchio said, “Everyone is Italian on Columbus Day.” On October 22, The Lodge residents celebrated Oktoberfest, and every resident was an honorary German for this celebration. The fun started at lunch time, where residents were treated to a special menu featuring German specialty foods such as Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Saur Bratten, warm potato salad, and braised red cabbage. Residents could even have a cold glass of beer (non-alcoholic) for a beverage that afternoon.
The fun didn’t stop then, as Millianne came with her accordion to play some music you’d hear at a traditional Oktoberfest. Songs included classic German standards, as well as some old American favorites modified to fit the occasion. Residents were swaying, clapping, and hooting and hollering with her as she played. The only missing was some dancers with lederhosen! Still, it’s hard to have a bad time with great food and entertainment, especially for a holiday like Oktoberfest.
