UPDATE: 18-Year-Old Driver Killed in Route 2 Crash in Glastonbury

CT State Police had shut down the highway during their investigation of the early Thursday morning crash.

An 18-year-old man was killed when the 1999 Honda Accord he was driving on westbound Route 2 in Glastonbury when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree on the right shoulder of the highway about 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Connecticut State Police.

Police said the crash occurred just before Exit 5D.

The driver was identified as Erik B. Blades of 151 Christine Dr., East Hartford. Police said that Blades was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are seeking witnesses to the crash and ask that they contact Trooper Trevor Gregor at 860-534-1000 at the Troop H Barracks.

Connecticut State Police confirm that a motorist died in the crash on Route 2 west at the Glastonbury-East Hartford line early Thursday.

A car went off the road and crashed into a tree.

The crash scene was clear by 8:30 a.m. and further details were not immediately available, according to The Hartford Courant.

Route 2 westbound in Glastonbury was reopened around 7:45 a.m. following a serious one-vehicle crash, according to WFSB.

NBC Connecticut’s Heidi Voight is reporting that Route 2 westbound is closed at Exit 8 as state police continue their investigation of a single-vehicle crash.

Here are the two detour routes Voight recommends: “Two detours: Hebron Ave to Rt 3 to 91, or to Main St to x5A.”

A serious crash has closed the right lane of Route 2 Westbound just before Exit 5D, according to Connecticut State Police.

In an advisory posted on Twitter, state police said at 6:20 a.m. Thursday, “ALL lanes will close shortly. Use caution. Seek alternate route.”

Heidi Voight of NBC Connecticut tweeted that a call for Lifestar has been cancelled. There was one vehicle involved in the crash that occurred about 5:40 a.m.
