GLASTONBURY, CT — The state's official crime statistics for last year in Glastonbury were released Monday in a comprehensive annual report.

The 2022 publication of Crime in Connecticut is the 45th in a series of annual reports dating back to 1978, officials said, while adding it "continues to be Connecticut’s most comprehensive compilation of crime data and provides detailed information on criminal offenses and arrests statewide."

The report is derived from crimes brought to the attention of law enforcement agencies and reported to the Crimes Analysis Unit at the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection. The Crimes Analysis Unit’s objective is to produce "reliable crime statistics for the purposes of law enforcement administration, operations, and management."

Criminal justice professionals, legislators, scholars, and others concerned with crime may use the data for research, planning, and reporting purposes.

Data from the report shows that between 2021 and 2022, Connecticut experienced:

  • A 4 persent reduction in overall crime
  • A 13 percent reduction in violent crime, including a 13 percent reduction in homicides and an 18 percent reduction in robberies
  • A 3 percent reduction in property crimes.

The report also finds that, over the past 10 years, overall crime in Connecticut has fallen 26 percent, including a 41 percent reduction in violent crime and a 23 percent reduction in property crime.

"This report demonstrates that Connecticut continues to be one of the safest states in the country, with violent and property crimes down from the previous year and below or trending toward pre-pandemic levels," Gov. Ned Lamont said. "Any instance of crime in our state is unacceptable, and we will continue to improve our public safety record by prioritizing smart on crime policies, gun safety, and support for our most vulnerable residents."
