Former Glastonbury School Principal Dies of Injuries in Terrorist Attack in Israel

Richard Lakin has passed away after being injured in an attack two weeks ago.

The former school principal from Glastonbury who was critically wounded in a Palestinian attack in Jerusalem two weeks ago has died of his wounds, his family has announced.

An Israeli hospital spokeswoman said that former Hopewell School Principal Richard Lakin, 76, died Tuesday, according to WTIC. Lakin had dual Israeli-American citizenship.

Lakin was shot and stabbed Oct. 13 by two assailants in a terrorist attack on a bus.

Lakin’s children announced their father’s death in a Facebook post. “Dad passed away this morning. He was 76 years old, and had eight grandchildren. He was butchered by Muslim terrorists who shot him in the head and stabbed him multiple times during an attack on Bus 78 in Jerusalem’s Armon Hanatziv neighborhood,” according to ynetnews.com.

“After the attack Dad was rushed to Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem where the incredible medical staff worked diligently around the clock for two weeks trying to save his life, but, alas, his injuries were too severe,” the post said.

Lakin served as the principal of Hopewell from 1969 to 1984 when he and his wife Karen decided to move with their young family to Israel.
