Glastonbury Candidate Profile 2019: Ray McFall, School Board

GLASTONBURY, CT — Glstonbury's election season is at its peak, and there are plenty of contested races with candidates eager to represent their town in November's municipal election. Patch asked candidates to answer questions about their campaigns, and has been publishing candidate profiles as election day draws near.

Ray McFall is running for Board of Education as a Republican.

The single most pressing issue facing our town/district is _______, and
this is what I intend to do about it.

State sponsored school regionalization. I plan to identify areas for real cost savings, such as services and buying power, but not centralizing the taxing and policy authority.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates
seeking this post?

I have an extensive military and government service background, and that experience will bring valuable work ethic and perspective to this role.

List other issues that define your campaign platform:

Reduced state education funding will require a strategic approach to budgeting going forward. I'm also interested in our technology policy for students, and how we should improve it to make technology less distracting in the classroom and at home.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

Leading strategic assessments in the aerospace industry, as well as leveraging an excellent business school education from UConn. I also count two well-adjusted children in the school system as an accomplishment.

Never take yourself too seriously, and always keep an open mind

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your
positions?

I am most interested in our school system producing well-adjusted, productive members of society prepared to succeed in college, the military, a vocation, or any path they choose.
