Glastonbury High School Ranked No. 25 in the State

The high school is ranked 940th in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report.

Glastonbury's school system is one of the best in the state, according to a recent report by U.S. News & World Report.

GHS was recently ranked 25th in the state as part of U.S. News's Best High Schools in the Nation, winning a Silver Award for student achievement.  They were ranked 940th in the nation.

The school slipped from 24th in the state in 2012.  However, it rose from 946th in the nation last year.

U.S. News & World Report determined their high school rankings by looking at state proficiency tests in math and reading. The ranking looked at reading and math proficiency results for all students, then factored in the percentage of economically disadvantaged students that tend to score lower on state testing.

Essentially, the report looked at all the schools to see which ones exceeded statistical expectations.

Glastonbury scored 96 percent proficiency in both reading and math.  They scored a 33.7 on the "college readiness index", meaning 37 percent of the school took the AP exams for college credit and 32 percent passed.

Just 7 percent of enrolled students are economically disadvantaged, the report said.

Darien High School was ranked the top high school in the state, with West Hartford's Conard High School taking the number 2 spot.

Nearby, South Windsor High School was ranked 31st in the state, with 96 percent proficiency in math and 95 percent proficiency in reading; they scored a 26.3 on the "college readiness index."

East Hampton was ranked 32nd in the state, with 92 percent proficiency in math and 93 percent proficiency in reading; they scored a 25.2 on the "college readiness index."
