Glastonbury Pedestrian Bridge Closed Amid 'Structural' Concerns
Recent structural inspections have "revealed issues of concern" on a bridge in Glastonbury.

GLASTONBURY, CT — Officials in Glastonbury Wednesday said that the sidewalk pedestrian bridge located south of the Main Street-Hubbard Street intersection has been closed to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
Recent structural inspections have "revealed issues of concern that will require repair or replacement," officials said.
Glastonbury Town Engineer Dan Pennington told Patch that the circa 1999 bridge is the oldest of the town's five pedestrian bridges. He said the town retained an engineering firm to inspect the five bridges and, in the case of the Main Street span, "more deterioration was uncovered than we expected." Age is one factor, he said.

Pennington said town officials are waiting for the formal report to come in before sharing more details on the bridge's condition.
Provisions for the evaluation and "subsequent rectification" of structural concerns for town-owned pedestrian bridges are included in the Town's Capital Improvement Program, officials said.
