Glastonbury School Board Scales Back Discovery Center Participation

Costs and some concerns over the Discovery Center affected the decision.

For the past five years, Glastonbury has been sending fourth- and fifth-grade students to the Discovery Center at Camp Woodstock for a three-day period.

But, the Glastonbury Board of Education has reconsidered those plans.

The Hartford Courant reported that the board voted to scale back the school district's participation at the Discovery Center to just one day, partially because the cost has doubled from $50 per student to $100.

School officials also told the board there have been some problems at the camp, including food allergies, bedbugs and well water problems, however the Discovery Center has dealt with all of those issues as they emerged, The Courant reported.
