Glastonbury Store Caught Selling Tobacco To A Minor

A Glastonbury store was caught selling tobacco to a minor during a sting operation, police said.

GLASTONBURY, CT — One store in Glastonbury was caught selling tobacco to a minor during a Wednesday compliance check detail, police said.

The Glastonbury Police Department and members of the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services' Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program conducted unannounced compliance inspections at establishments that sell tobacco products.

Police said the target was stores selling cigarettes to minors. An "underage youth," employed by the Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program, entered the establishments and attempted to purchase tobacco products, police said.

Out of 11 stores visited, one establishment — Sam’s Food Store at 952 New London Turnpike — was caught. The clerk was issued a $200 infraction ticket, police said.
